DINDIGUL: Three persons, including a husband and wife, were electrocuted after a live power cable fell on a house at Agraharam Street in Athoor in this district on Tuesday, the police said.

The deceased were identified as Karuppaiya (41), his wife Sudha (37) and 18-year-old Subramaniyasiva, the neighbour, who rushed to help them.

Karuppaiah (41) of Athoor Agraharam in Dindigul district was working as a mason. They have two daughters, Praveena (15) and Shivani (12).

On Monday, due to heavy rain, an electric wire snapped and fell on Karuppaiya's upstairs house at Agraharam Street. Karuppaiah and Sudha, who were living on the terrace, suffered an electric shock and died on the spot.

During the incident, Subramaniasiva, a college student and son of Muthupandi and Mariammal, rushed to rescue the couple after hearing their cries. He too suffered an electric shock and died.

On receiving information, Sembatti Inspector Saravanan and police personnel rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to Dindigul GH for a post-mortem. Sembatti police have registered a case and are investigating.

Nilakottai TVK MLA R Ayyanar met the family members in person on Tuesday and consoled them. Ayyanar stated that the incident would be brought to the attention of Chief Minister Vijay and steps would be taken to provide due compensation. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam functionaries were present.
