Thoothukudi free from virus beefs up border checks

With Thoothukudi becoming coronavirus-free district in the south Tamil Nadu, the district administration is adopting a cautious approach by increasing surveillance along the borders, said Collector Sandeep Nanduri on Saturday.

He further said that the bordering areas such as Kovilpatti, Ettayapuram and Vembar would be manned adequately for a thorough check of those entering the district. Those approaching the bordering areas would be medically examined and if identified with virus symptoms, would be sent to hospitals.

Lauding the efforts of health care professionals, he said except for one positive patient, who succumbed to the disease, all the 26 others, who contracted Covid, have recovered and were sent home. Nanduri added that necessary measures have been initiated in the seven coronavirus containment zones that have been identified in the district.
