TIRUCHY: Two youth, who were taking bath at the Grand Anaicut canal were washed away and one of them was rescued. Search is on for the other in Thanjavur on Thursday. As many as 55 youth from Salem district came to participate in the state conference of SFI held in Tiruvarur on Thursday evening. The members, who reached Kallanai in the morning, went to take bath in the GA canal there. While they were bathing, R Thamarai Selvan (18) from Edappadi in Salem and Dinesh Kumar (18) were washed away. Soon, the others raised an alarm and the locals passed on the information to the Fire and Rescue Service personnel. They rescued Dinesh Kumar, who was holding on the vegetation in the water, but search is on for Thamarai Selvan. On information, Madurai MP Su Venkatesan, Gandharvakottai MLA Chinnadurai, SFI state president AC Kannan and other office-bearers rushed to the spot and oversaw the rescue operation. Thanjavur West police registered a case and are investigating.
