TENKASI: Sankarankovil All-Women Police Station has registered a case against municipality deputy chairperson and AIADMK functionary Kannan alias Raju following a 44-year-old woman’s complaint alleging that he sexually assaulted her when she was 15 and continued to sexually exploit her over the years.

The complainant referred to an extra-marital relationship with the AIADMK’s state deputy secretary of the All India MGR Mandram, claiming that they have a child out of wedlock. The complainant has sought action against Kannan and stated that a DNA test could help establish the facts.

Even as police are said to be searching for him, Kannan is reportedly undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Madurai due to ill health. The complainant, a resident of Krishnasamy Street in Sankarankovil, alleged that Kannan, her relative, sexually assaulted her when she was studying in Class 10 and attending tuition at his house.

According to the complaint, Kannan, who is married and has children, subsequently pressured her to have a child with him and threatened to disclose their alleged relationship to her husband if she refused.

The woman also alleged that Kannan persuaded her to seek a divorce from her husband, promising to support her and her son. According to her complaint, he took her to a lawyer he knew and initiated divorce proceedings at the Sankarankovil court.

She further claimed that Kannan arranged accommodation for her and her son in Chennai and sent them money every month for their maintenance. However, after a verdict was delivered in her divorce case, he allegedly told her that he would no longer meet her.
