Teen dies after being hit by cricket ball at tournament

An 18-year-old died after being hit by a ball while batting during a cricket match in Chengalpattu on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as S Sunil of Chunambedu and the tournament was organised by AIADMK doctors’ wing (Kancheepuram Central District) at Agaram cricket ground as part of J Jayalalithaa’s 72nd birth anniversary. The tournament which started on December 29 had matches on weekends and was scheduled to conclude on February 23. On Sunday, there was a league match between teams from Chunambedu and Acharapakkam. Sunil who was batting for Chunambedu was hit on the chest by the ball while he was batting.


As Sunil collapsed, others rushed him to Maduranthakam government hospital and he was transferred to Chengalpattu government hospital after first-aid but doctors declared him brought dead. His body was sent for post-mortem. Chunambedu police have registered a case.
