Police said wireman Kannan (48) picked up a quarrel with Mani Prabhu (34), working as an engineer at the Tangedco office near Madathukulam in Tirupur district. Kannan was enraged over frequent allocation of day shifts, when he perceived work to be hard. Instead, he wanted the official to allocate him the much easier night shifts.

On Tuesday morning, he got into a quarrel with Mani Prabhu over the issue and it soon turned into a fisticuff between them. In a fit of rage, Kannan picked up a wooden log and attacked the engineer causing bleeding injuries in his head. As Mani Prabhu collapsed, Kannan fled from the scene. The police said only the assailant and the engineer were in the office, when the incident happened around 7 am.

The engineer was immediately rushed to Udumalpet Government Hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead. On receiving information, the Kumaralingam police retrieved the body.
