MADURAI: Sivaganga Superintendent of Police Abhishek Gupta on Sunday suspended a police inspector and a head constable attached to the Singampunari police station after an inquiry into CCTV footage allegedly showing the acceptance of a bribe surfaced on social media.
The footage, which went viral on Saturday, reportedly showed Head Constable Jayaraj accepting money from Pandi, a resident of Singampunari. The payment was allegedly made at the instruction of Police Inspector Seenibabu.
Based on the preliminary inquiry, Sivaganga SP Abhishek Gupta suspended them. Police have also launched an inquiry into the background of Pandi, a traditional medicine practitioner
The swift action has drawn widespread attention in Sivaganga, with further investigation into the allegations expected.
