The Tamil Nadu government has planned to operate special buses ahead of Pongal to manage the state's increased travel requirements. A meeting will be held on January 6 to decide on the same.

With the festival still two weeks away, bus and train tickets have already sold out. The Southern Railways has also announced special trains.
