The Tamil Nadu government has planned to operate special buses ahead of Pongal to manage the state's increased travel requirements. A meeting will be held on January 6 to decide on the same.

As per a Daily Thanthi report, sources say that around 1,600 buses will be added, while the government plans on renting private buses to manage the festive crowd.

With the festival still two weeks away, bus and train tickets have already sold out. The Southern Railways has also announced special trains.
