CHENNAI: Tasmac employees will stage an indefinite sit-in protest demonstration at the State Secretariat from February 3, urging the state government to fulfil their demands, including streamlining or scrapping the buy-bottle scheme.

The All India Trade Union Congress-backed Tamil Nadu Tasmac Employees Union (TNTEU) said that a decision was taken during a general council meeting of the association recently.

TNTEU state general secretary N Periyasamy said that the state government should immediately regularise the Tasmac staff and ensure pension benefits.

Periyasamy said that other demands, including easing the difficulties in Point of Sales machines (PoS) and providing extra staff and space to implement the bottle buy-back scheme, were already discussed with the higher officials. These demands should also be considered by the state government immediately.
