TIRUCHY: An Assistant Executive Engineer and an Assistant Engineer from PWD in Thiruvarur were arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh for availing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to construct a canal overbridge adjacent to his land at Velankanni on Monday (August 24).

According to DVAC, Abinesh bought land at Annai Nagar at Pradhamarma Puram village in Velankanni and planned to construct a lodge.

Since there was a canal flowing adjacent to his land, he wanted to construct an overbridge to connect the land and the main road. Subsequently, he applied for NOC with the Water Resources Management Department of PWD, Thiruvarur.

However, the AEE Manickavel and AE Vinoth demanded a bribe of Rs 3 lakh to process his application.

Unwilling to part with money, Abinesh lodged a complaint against the officials with the DVAC, Thiruvarur.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered, and on Monday (August 24), a team rushed to the office and caught both Manickavel and Vinoth red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 3 lakh.

Subsequently, they were arrested and later remanded under judicial custody.
