CHENNAI: In a veiled dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party and its ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday called upon people to "teach a befitting lesson to the inheritors of Godse," referring to Nathuram Godse, who shot dead the Father of the Nation.

CM Stalin went on to accuse "Godse's lineage" of attempting to ruin the country and undermine the values of Mahatma Gandhi, urging people to defeat divisive communal politics.

Sharing a social media post on X on the occasion of the 79th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, CM and DMK president Stalin said Godse's ideological successors are attempting to erase Gandhi’s legacy and undermine the country, and called upon citizens to safeguard the land of the Mahatma.

CM Stalin underscored the importance of protecting unity, peace and a non-violent approach to life, actively promoted by the Father of the Nation.

Recalling Gandhi's assassination, Stalin said the Mahatma would continue to live in the hearts of every Indian, even though he was killed by Godse's gun.

Now, the heirs of Godse, a veiled reference to the BJP, RSS workers and supporters, were trying to damage the country's foundations, he alleged.

Recalling Gandhi’s commitment to peace and harmony, Stalin said his ideals remain relevant in countering forces that seek to divide the nation through hatred and extremism.

Stalin, along with Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and other Ministers, paid floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Government Museum in Egmore on the death anniversary.
