Tamil Nadu AG Shunmugasundaram resigns

The report further stated that Shunmugasundaram has informed the Tamil Nadu government and the Chief Minister about his resignation. Further, he has decided to practice law privately.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Advocate General (AG) R Shunmugasundaram has reportedly esigned his post.

The AG informed about his resignation to the Chief Minister MK Stalin, that due to his personal reasons he has decided to resigned from his post. It is expected the resignation will be announced officially soon. Further, it is also believed that the AG has decided to practice his legal service on private.

Shunmugasundaram was a public prosecutor since 1989, he served as a State public prosecutor from June 1996 to May 2001. He was recognised as senior advocate in 2000 by the Madras High Court and headed the Madras Bar association from 2015 to 2017.

He also elected as Rajya Sabha member by the DMK representing State from 2002 to 2008.

The legal fraternity still recalls the deadly attack set out against him as he prepares for a corruption case against the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, on May 30, 1995.

After DMK came to power in 2021, Shunmugasundaram was appointed as AG of the State.
