On Monday, both Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth had said they would join hands (in politics) if there is a need.

Actress and MNM leader Sripriya told a news channel that she would prefer Kamal Haasan as the candidate. “I personally would like to see Kamal become Chief Minister. I will work for that. But I will also certainly work for the victory of anyone supported by him,” she said.

Former deputy mayor Karate R Thiagarajan, who is an ardent supporter of Rajinikanth, said that Rajinikanth should be the CM candidate in the event of him aligning with Haasan’s party. “If Rajinikanth launches a political party, everyone would want him to be the Chief Minister. He has been in thick of political activity since 1996,” he said while welcoming the actors’ resolve to work together for the development of the State.

Sources close to Haasan and Rajinikanth believe that formation of a pre-poll alliance for the 2021 State polls would certainly help them realise their goal to oust Dravidian parties from power and provide a corruption-free government.

A top leader in the MNM said that both stars entered politics intending to work for the betterment of the people but not driven by the quest for power. “The two joining in an alliance could be a winning combination in the ensuing State polls. There is nothing wrong as both have the same intention,” he said, adding that Haasan had not discussed the possibility of joining hands with Rajinikanth in the party forum yet.

Gandhiya Makkal Iyakkam leader Tamilaruvi Manian, who is a close confidante of Rajinikanth, said, “When their views converge on providing a corruption-free government and to ensure transparency in governance, they can contest together in the polls as well. We can’t rule out the possibility,” he said.

When asked who should be the Chief Ministerial candidate, he said that they both are close friends and they could discuss and decide it among themselves. “As of now, the situation is that Rajinikanth will launch his political party next year. On the eve of the election, he will form an alliance and it will also be under his leadership,” he said.
