CHENNAI: Social media erupted with speculations and questions being raised on whether procedures stipulated by the Indian surrogacy laws were followed by the Kollywood couple -Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan, who welcomed twin baby boys on Monday.

While the duo has not made an official statement, some unverified reports surfaced that the babies were conceived through surrogacy. A few on social media criticised that commercial surrogacy is not allowed in India and this set a bad example, while others supported the decision and urged to give some privacy.

Shivan, who tied the knot with the actor in June, took to Twitter to share the news with fans and followers.

"Nayan & Me have become Amma & Appa. We are blessed with twin baby Boys. All Our prayers, our ancestors' blessings combined with all the good manifestations made, have come 2gethr in the form Of 2 blessed babies for us. Need all ur blessings for our Uyir & Ulagam (sic)," Shivan tweeted.

According to reports, the couple welcomed twins via surrogacy.
