The Tamil Nadu government issued a Government Order (GO) on Monday and granted six months for Justice Kulasekaran commission to submit its report. The commission was appointed to carry out a caste census.

According to the GO, the commission will collect data pertaining to various social, educational, economic and political parameters of the population of the state. “The commission will submit its report to the government within six months," said B Chandra Mohan, secretary of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department.

The Tamil Nadu government had formed Justice Kulasekaran commission

following the PMK protest on exclusive 20 percent reservation for the Vanniyar community. To silence the criticism about the terms of the commission, the government had issued a GO on the terms of reference of the commission in which it has been stated that along with the identification of castes and tribes, the commission shall collect details of migrants domiciled in the state.
