“Air travel within the State is restricted unless the cost is lesser than the train fare. Air travel outside the State is also restricted as Resident Commissioners for Tamil Nadu in New Delhi are deputed to represent TN in government in meetings. Foreign travel at State’s cost is completely restricted,” said Chief Secretary K Shanmugam, in an order.

Sources said the two-month lockdown has increased the financial burden of Tamil Nadu forcing it to undertake strict restrictions. It has also imposed limitations on purchase of new equipment and vehicles. “No new purchase of computers and accessories are allowed except the replacement of very old and dysfunctional systems. A total ban is also in place on purchase of new vehicles except for emergency services including ambulances, police and fire vehicles,” said the Chief Secretary.

The State has also banned all extravaganzas. “Presentation of gifts, bouquets, memento, garlands and other similar articles are banned. All official lunches, dinners and other entertainments are banned until further orders,” Shanmugam said.
