SSI murder: NIA holds inquiries in Salem

National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths conducted inquiries with a few people in Salem district while probing their involvement in terror activities in connection with the murder of Special Sub-Inspector Wilson in Kanniyakumari district in January.

Wilson was gunned down at Kaliyakkavilai check post by Thofeeq and Shameem, who were part of a terror module. The NIA took over the investigation from Q Branch sleuths on suspicion that the duo was part of a larger network of people involved in terrorist activities. Kanniyakumari police have handed over documents pertaining to the investigation to the NIA, SP N Shreenath said.


Early on Sunday, three teams of NIA sleuths from Kochi held inquiries with people in Ammapet, Asthampatty, Omalur and Theevattipatti areas. The local police assisted the NIA in their investigation.


A police officer said that the duo arrested in the case was found to be in contact with a few people in Salem district. “Hence, the NIA sleuths have arrived to conduct inquiries and ascertain if they were part of any terror activities. Investigations will continue for another day,” said a cop. Police also said that no arrests have been made so far.
