Police also seized deadly weapons, including two long knives, two machetes and a couple of rods from the gang sources said.

Further investigations revealed that a 43-year-old woman Amutheswari, native of Mannargudi, Thiruvarur district, settled presently in Malaysia, hatched the plot to murder a 23-year-old youth identified as Ashok Kumar. Ashok is a resident of Kattunaickanpatti near Veerapandi in Theni district.

Ashok was alleged to have befriended Amutheswari on Facebook few months ago. As relationship between them grew, it flourished into a love affair.

Meanwhile, Amutheswari, a drug addict who also holds citizenship of Malaysia, had demanded Ashok to marry her during a chat.

Ashok was aghast to see Amutheswari in person and refused the marriage proposal as she did not appear appealing to him.

Frustrated and embarrassed with Ashok’s volte-face, Amutheswari hatched the murder plot with the aid of hiredkillers.

However, the armed gang was nabbed by police while conducting checks in a lodge in Bodi.

Police learnt that Amutheswari had falsely told the gang that her sister was murdered by Ashok and hence she was seeking revenge.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that both Ashok and Amutheswari had also approached the Veerapandi police and All Women Police seeking action against each other claiming that they were cheated.

Those arrested were identified as R. Anbarasan (24) of Avaniyapuram, Madurai, P. Muniyasami (21) of Kamuthi, Ramanathapuram, M. Ayyanar (30) of Kamuthi, B. Thirumurugan (21) of Kamuthi, S.
