CHENNAI: Five persons died in Kallakurichi after consuming spurious liquor on Wednesday.

More than 10 people were admitted to the Kallakurichi Government Medical College Hospital.

Police said that more information would be revealed only after the physical examination was over.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai termed the deaths as 'shocking' and demanded that the excise minister should take full responsibility for these deaths. "It is very clear that the state government has not taken any steps to control bootlegging of liquor," he claimed.

It has been a year since 23 people died after consuming bootlegged liquor in Villupuram's Marakkanam and Maduranthagam in Chengalpattu district, the BJP leader recalled.
