CHENNAI: PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss has accused the DMK government of betraying more than four lakh teachers by failing to conduct a Special Teacher Eligibility Test or enact a special law to protect those affected by the Supreme Court verdict. He assured that the issue would be resolved under the next government.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Anbumani said the Teachers Recruitment Board’s announcement that no Special TET would be conducted before the end of the DMK government’s term had come as a shock to teachers. He noted that only regular TET examinations are scheduled for July and December 2026, leaving teachers impacted by the Supreme Court ruling without any relief.
He said the DMK, which had earlier assured that it would not abandon teachers affected by the verdict, had failed to address their livelihood concerns. Referring to the Supreme Court’s September 1 ruling mandating TET qualification for teachers appointed before the implementation of the Right to Education Act, he said many teachers appointed before 2011 were facing severe difficulties due to drastic changes in the syllabus.

Anbumani pointed out that the Special TET notification issued in November was abruptly withdrawn and that no follow-up action was taken, either by filing appeals or bringing in legislative amendments.
Stating that the DMK government had betrayed government employees and teachers alike, he said the PMK would not abandon the affected teachers. He promised that after the Assembly elections, a new government would conduct a Special TET with a simplified syllabus and reduced qualifying marks to ensure job security for all teachers impacted by the verdict.
