Southern Railway announces special trains, cancellations

The SR also deployed additional RPF and GRP personnel at high footfall stations including Central, Egmore and Beach stations to monitor the operations of 80 express and EMU services

CHENNAI: The Southern Railway has taken several steps ahead of Pongal and announced a one-way express special train on the Tirunelveli-Tambaram route to clear festival rush. Several special trains are fully cancelled due to poor occupancy, said a press release issued by Southern Railway.

The SR also deployed additional RPF and GRP personnel at high footfall stations including Central, Egmore and Beach stations to monitor the operations of 80 express and EMU services. A 24/7 control room has also been opened.

A total of 36 express special trains have been operated. Additional ticket counters, help desks and ATVM facilitators, frequent public announcements have been arranged in several stations.

Train 06178 Tirunelveli-Tambaram one-way express special will leave Tirunelveli at 1 pm on January 18 (Sunday) and reach Tambaram at 3 am the next day (one service). Coach composition will be of 8 sleeper class coaches, 8 general second class coaches and two second class coaches (disabled-friendly).

Train 06011 Tambaram-Kanniyakumari special scheduled to leave Tambaram at 3.30 pm on January 19 is fully cancelled (one service). Train 06053 Tambaram-Nagercoil special scheduled to leave Tambaram at 12.30 pm on January 21 is fully cancelled (one service).

Train 06033 Dr MGR Chennai Central-Coimbatore special scheduled to leave Central station at 11.25 pm on January 19 is fully cancelled (one service).

Train 06024 Podanur-Dr MGR Chennai Central special scheduled to leave Podanur at 12.35 am on January 21 is fully cancelled (one service). Train 06023 Dr MGR Chennai Central-Podanur special scheduled to leave Central station at 1.50 pm on January 21 is fully cancelled (one service), added the release.
