According to N Balaji, Kalakkad Range Officer, the wild animal slipped into a farm well at Singikulam and based on a tip off from Nagarajan and Veluchamy from the locality, Rapid Response Team comprising Anti-Poaching Watchers rushed to the spot and managed to pull the animal up from the well with the aid of rope after tranquilizing it. However, the sloth beer after being rescued, escaped soon after through the rope cage. Later, it was spotted under a bush at Sengaltheri, where the animal was trapped in a net. The rescued sloth bear was then taken into the interior pocket of Sengaltheri and released into forest area, Balaji said.

The bear was aged around eleven and was roaming around the farms. Reacting to complaints, the Forest personnel were keenly monitoring the situation at Singikulam to trap the wild animal. Moreover, there’s a cage placed for nearly two months. The animal strayed into the farm land in search of food. Earlier on April 27 this year, a sloth bear was trapped under the Kalakkad Range, he added.
