Seven dead in Tiruvannamalai as car and bus collide head-on

The report states that five died immediately after the accident and the other two were declared dead at the Chengam government hospital.

TIRUVANNAMALAI: Seven people died in an accident after the vehicle they were travelling from Bengaluru to Tiruvannamalai collided head on with a government bus, near Chengam on Monday night. The accident happened less than a kilometre away from the spot where another mishap had claimed seven lives less than 10 days ago.

In the present accident, five of them were killed on the spot while two more succumbed at the government hospital in Chengam. Of the seven who died, five hailed from Assam and were working in a factory in Hosur, police said.

According to officials, the accident happened when the vehicle carrying about 11 people was proceeding to Krishnagiri on the Tindivanam-Krishnagiri national highway on Monday night. It rammed into the State Transport Corporation bus coming from Bengaluru.

The deceased were Aspingoro, Biswas Murmu, Samon, Aranji and Gunsarai from Assam, and Kamaraj (24) of Marapattu in Oothangarai and Punith Kumar (23) of Denkanikotta in Krishnagiri.Four more from Assam – Dhola, Biswas, Subhan and Sistapa – were rushed to Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College Hospital.

Collector B Murugesh and SP Karthikeyan oversaw rescue operations, while Vellore range DIG MS Muthusamy visited the accident site later in the day.
