Senthilbalaji's brother files discharge plea in money laundering case

CHENNAI: Former minister V Senthilbalaji's brother, RV Ashok Kumar, has filed a petition before the Chennai Principal Sessions Court seeking to be discharged from the money laundering case.

The Enforcement Directorate has filed a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering (PMLA) Act against former minister V Senthilbalaji, his brother RV Ashok Kumar, former aide P Shanmugam, and 13 others.

The case is currently under trial before the Chennai Principal Sessions Court.

When the matter came up for hearing before Principal Sessions Judge S Karthikeyan, former minister Senthilbalaji did not appear in person for the first time in the case.

His brother Ashok Kumar also did not appear. However, eight other accused persons were present before the court.

Petitions were filed on behalf of Ashok Kumar, Karthikeyan, and Anuradha Ramesh, seeking their discharge from the case. After receiving the petitions, the judge adjourned the matter to February 2.
