Select chairperson first, demands Puliyur BJP member

Earlier, the chairperson post was allocated to CPI. But, rebel candidate Bhuvaneshwari from DMK was elected in the indirect poll.

BJP member of Puliyur Town Panchayat in Karur staged a sit-in on Thursday against the indirect elections for various committees, as the chairperson election has been pending with a case in the court.

Earlier, the chairperson post was allocated to CPI. But, rebel candidate Bhuvaneshwari from DMK was elected in the indirect poll.

However, on the insistence of CM and DMK president MK Stalin, Bhuvaneshwari resigned.

But the council continue to function without a chairperson. In such a backdrop, the indirect election for various committees were organised and BJP member Vijayakumar staged a protest for conduct of chairperson poll first.
