CHENNAI: School students protested by blocking the government buses near Padappai on Wednesday after the buses went without stopping in their village.

The MTC bus route 583, which departs from Tambaram would be operated till Walajabad via Padappai, Vanjuvanchery, Mathur and Oragadam. Sources said most of the students from the Vanjuvanchery village would travel to their schools in Mathur by bus.

But the past few weeks, the bus was not stopping at Vanjuvanchery. Students were unable go to school on time and forced to take leave on many days.

Villagers tried to contact the transport department regarding the issue but there was no response from them.

On Wednesday morning, students who gathered at the Vanjuvanchery bus stop with their parents started to protest by blocking the Tambaram-Walajabad buses and allowing other vehicles to pass the road.

On information, the Manimangalam police and the transport department staff who visited the spot held peace talks with the protestors and promised them that buses will stop in Vanjuvanchery. Later, after 2 hours, they gave up the protest and dispersed.
