These manuals were developed by the council to serve as a reference guide for the teachers with instructions and ideas required to make them better.

A senior official from SCERT told DT Next that child right and protection module was evolved to help teachers understand the joyful childhood, the existing differences in the classrooms and the society, recommends desirable changes in both, apart from creating awareness on child sex abuse.

He said the main objective of the manual was to help the children affected by sexual abuse and bail them out of the sense of shame, guilt and stigma attached to the episode. The manual was created after a series of constructive discussions, consultations, debates and resolutions in collaboration with various stakeholders, SCERT faculty members and teacher educators from the Education Department, he said.

The cyber safety manual would give a broad idea about how computers are being used to commit a criminal act. According to the official, it would also give an outline on how hackers target government organisations, and even educational institutions including universities. It elaborates the preventive tips to keep the computers protected and how one should not access unwanted and unsecured websites.

Also noting that many schools were situated in densely populated areas and hence prone to accidents like fire and building collapse, the official said, “To reduce this vulnerability prevailing in schools, the manual focuses on imparting teachers with effective disaster management plan.”

The disaster management manual gives an idea to the teacher’s roles and responsibilities during such crises. Emergency procedure which a teacher is expected to remember, and implement shall be kept to a minimum, he added.
