Rs 10 crore for value-added coconut items

In order to help Cyclone Gaja-hit coconut farmers, the Centre has allotted a fund of Rs 92 crore, among which Rs 10 crore would be spent for the value added products of coconut, said Coconut Development Board (CDB) director Raju Narayana Swamy in Thanjavur on Friday.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the training programme for the coconut farmers on the value added products held at Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT), the CDB director said, among the farmers 17 per cent are involved in coconut farming and the Centre has allotted a fund of Rs 92 crore for the development of the Gaja-hit coconut farmers.


While speaking, the Director of IIFPT Ananda Ramakrishnan said, the institute has already conducted study at Peravurani and Pollachi areas for the possible value added products making out of coconut and a few latest technological inventions are made for augmenting the coconut production.
