Renowned Tamil Marxist scholar Kovai Gnani passes away at 85

Renowned Tamil Marxist scholar and writer Kovai Gnani passed away at his residence in Coimbatore on Wednesday at the age of 85.

Gnani, who was born in 1935, died due to age related illness around 11.15 am. One of the famous Tamil Marxist critiques, Gnani had mentored several Tamil writers of modern times. Having authored more than 50 books, he also brought out magazines like ‘Parimanam’ and ‘Tamizhneyam.’ Gnani worked as a teacher after studying Tamil literature in Annamalai University. He received several awards during his lifetime for his outstanding contributions to Tamil literature and intellectual research on Marxism. Even though Gnani lost his eyesight in 1988 due to diabetes, he didn’t stop his work.
