CHENNAI: Rear Admiral Upal Kundu, VSM, assumed the position of the Flag Officer Commanding Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area (FOTNA), succeeding Rear Admiral Satish Shenai, NM, in a ceremonial parade held at INS Adyar on Saturday.

The event marked a significant milestone in the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area, with Rear Admiral Satish Shenai superannuating after 40 years of distinguished service to the nation.

As FOTNA, Rear Admiral Upal Kundu assumes responsibility for overseeing naval operations and the administration of all units and establishments in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The Flag Officer Commanding Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Naval Area is a senior appointment in the Indian Navy, with the FOTNA holding the rank of two-star Admiral. One of the five Area Commanders of the Indian Navy, the FOTNA plays a crucial role in ensuring the region's security and stability. Rear Admiral Upal Kundu brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise, having served in various capacities in the Indian Navy.

The Change of Command ceremony was attended by senior naval officers, veterans, and their families. Rear Admiral Satish Shenai was felicitated for his outstanding service, and Rear Admiral Upal Kundu was welcomed as the new FOTNA.
