Ramnad police arrest 127 drug offenders as part of crackdown this year

Based on complaints, 76 ganja related cases were booked against the criminals and 246 kilos of ganja worth Rs 30 lakh seized.

MADURAI: Ramanathapuram district police have so far arrested 127 offenders this year as part of the crackdown on harmful drug (ganja) sellers and traffickers. Based on complaints, 76 ganja related cases were booked against the criminals and 246 kilos of ganja worth Rs 30 lakh seized. Moreover, through financial investigation, the district police have frozen 91 bank accounts in connection with the cases, Superintendent of Police P Thangadurai said on Sunday. Further, the SP said orders were issued and confiscated illegally acquired property worth Rs 51,15,013 of another ganja offender ‘Nalla’ Ibrahim of Keelakarai, who’s arrested under Sections 8 (c), 20 (b) (ii) (c), 27 A and 29 (1) of NDPS Act after being charged with trafficking 90 kilos of ganja and being imprisoned. The SP then added saying the District Police have come out with a list figuring 159 ganja and other drug related offenders and actions have been taken against 143 of them under Sections 107 /110 of Cr.P.C., and the police also undertook bonds from 107 of them for good behaviour.
