TIRUCHY: Two senior citizens died in two different incidents after roof and wall collapse due to continuous rains in Tiruvarur on Wednesday.
It is said, rains continued to lash across the delta region especially in districts like Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam for the past couple of days.
In such a backdrop, the roof of a house at Kankoduthavanitham colony in Tiruvarur collapsed after it turned weak by drenching due to rains for the few days in which Ganapathi (80) and his wife Indirani (70) who were residing in the house sustained injuries. While Indirani escaped with minor injuries, Ganapathi died on the way to Tiruvarur medical College hospital due to heavy blood loss.
Similarly, Alamelu (70), resident of Vadaver village in Tiruvarur was crushed to death after the wall in her house collapsed as it was weak after the continuous rains. The body has been retrieved and sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigations are on.
