Pvt hospital ordered to pay Rs 18L to patient for wrong treatment

TIRUCHY: The Karur District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission on Tuesday ordered a private hospital to pay a compensation of Rs 18 lakh to a patient who was given wrong treatment for kidney ailment.

Nallathal (47), consulted a nephrologist in a private hospital in Karur on January 22, 2015. The surgeon found stones in both her kidneys and recommended a laser treatment.

Nallathal underwent the laser treatment, but unfortunately there was damage in the urinary tract due to it.

However, the doctor did not inform the patient about it and discharged her on January 27.

However, Nallathal’s pain increased and she was referred to a private hospital in Coimbatore where she underwent three surgeries.

On December 3, 2015, Nallathal approached the consumer court and on Tuesday, the Commission Chairperson Balakrishnan ordered the private hospital to pay Rs 18.03 lakh.
