Guards beat puppy to death on private college campus near Sriperumbudur, assault students who questioned them

CHENNAI: Tension prevailed in a private college near Sriperumbudur after security guards assaulted students who questioned them over the killing of a puppy inside the campus.

The incident reportedly happened at a private educational institution, with medical and engineering colleges, in Thandalam near Sriperumbudur.

According to sources, a small puppy was roaming inside the campus on Wednesday, and some students were scared as it tried to bite them. Following this, a few security guards working at the college reportedly beat and killed the puppy.


A group of students who witnessed the incident questioned the guards over why the puppy was killed and began recording the argument on their mobile phones. During the heated argument, the security guards attacked the students who raised the issue.

Following the incident, members of the Blue Cross animal welfare organisation filed a complaint at the Sriperumbudur police station. In their complaint, they urged the police to take legal action against those responsible for killing the dog as well as those who allegedly assaulted the students.


Based on the complaint, the Sriperumbudur police are conducting an inquiry into the incident.
