It is said, after five months of hiatus due to COVID-19 situation, the Pudukkottai district administration had scheduled an online grievance meeting on Monday at 11 am. District Collector P Uma Maheswari and other officials were present at the Collectorate.

As soon as the online meeting commenced as per schedule, the farmers, who participated in the meeting, were shocked to find the name of the district carried in Tamil, English as well as Hindi. Angered by this, farmers raised slogans in the meeting and demanded to remove the name in Hindi. “While the entire State of Tamil Nadu has been fighting against the imposition of Hindi, the district Collector encourages Hindi,” the farmers alleged. They also said the government had clearly mentioned that the State would always have bi-language system and the government would never allow imposition of Hindi at any form. The farmers also raised slogans against the district administration.

However, the district Collector said that as the meeting was streamed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Hindi was used.
