Protests erupt in Trichy after Dalit boys forced to remove excreta

Tension prevailed in Perambalur district after VCK members staged a protest demanding to arrest caste Hindu youths who reportedly forced the Dalit boys to carry human excreta on Friday.

A group of five boys between 10 and 15 years belonging to Dalit community from Sirugudal village near Kunnam in Perambalur had gone to a secluded place on Friday morning to relieve themselves. While they were on the process, a group of youths belonging to a backward community identified as R Abinesh (18), S Selvakumar (19) and N Silambarasan (20) who came there surrounded the Dalit boys and forced them to remove the excreta from there and carry them to their colony. The youths also had reportedly assaulted the Dalit boys.

Later, the Dalit boys who went to their respective houses, informed about the incident to their parents which triggered commotion among the Dalits in the locality. Meanwhile, on information, a group of VCK leaders led by State Secretary V Sengolan and Deputy Secretary and advocate R Srinivasa Rao visited the spot and resorted to a protest on Sirugudal Road and prevented vehicle movement.

They also demanded to register case against the youths under atrocities against SC/ST Act and the arrest them immediately. On information, Maruvathur police who rushed to the spot pacified the protesters. Upon assurance of action, they dispersed.
