CHENNAI: As the All India Congress Committee (AICC) holds a preparatory meeting on Saturday evening in Delhi for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, calls for power sharing within the state have grown louder, with Virudhunagar MP Manickam Tagore emerging as a prominent voice of power sharing.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) convened a preparatory meeting in New Delhi on Saturday to discuss strategies for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Meanwhile, demands for power sharing within the ruling alliance in Tamil Nadu have been intensifying day by day.

Virudhunagar MP Manickam Tagore has been at the forefront of these demands. Ahead of the meeting, he took to social media platform X, stating that he was travelling from Madurai to New Delhi to represent the sentiments of Congress workers in Tamil Nadu.

I’m leaving Madurai this morning to head to New Delhi. Not for myself, but to convey the sentiments of Congress workers who are fighting to protect our movement

Tagore also noted that he would express the feelings of Tamil Nadu Congress cadres to the All India Congress leadership and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

He emphasised the need to safeguard the party’s rights within the alliance.“We should not give up our rights again. We need to defeat the forces of religious extremism and respect the emotions of our party workers. Let us stand together in friendship and raise our voice for our rights,” he added.

Earlier, Tagore had stated that the Congress party was not seeking major ministries such as Public Works, Highways, Mines, or Urban Development in the event of a power-sharing arrangement. Instead, he said the party was willing to take up portfolios such as Health, Rural Development, Social Justice, and Women and Child Development to better serve the people.
