Ponnar vows development in Kanniyakumari

Projects to foster development will be brought in Kanniyakumari, catering to the needs of the people, Pon Radhakrishnan, the BJP candidate said on Tuesday after filing his nomination before Collector and District Election Officer M Arvind to contest by-poll from Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha constituency.

The constituency has been without a representative after the demise of H Vasanthakumar due to COVID-19 in August last year.

Radhakrishnan said development projects, which remain pending, such as four-lane highway and railway doubling would be taken up and completed in time, if he’s elected from this constituency. Moreover, earlier promises on establishing a rubber park, conversion of Government Medical College Hospital into multispecialty hospital and an ESI hospital would be delivered.

With elections nearing, the opposition party could incite communal and religious feelings to capitalise on the situation. The opposition parties, including Congress and DMK, were making baseless charges that Marthandam bridge, which was inaugurated by Radhakrishnan when he’s the Union Minister in 2018, has started shaking. He also promised job opportunities and asked entrepreneurs should come forward.
