CHENNAI: The police on Sunday uncovered an illegal gambling operation and arrested a 49-year-old man in Rakkiyapalayam, according to a Daily Thanthi.

Based a tip-off about online gambling activities in Rakkiyapalayam, the cops conducted a raid at the house of Jagatheesan from Pasupathipalayam in  Karur. They found that the accused was gambling on IPL cricket matches through a new mobile app.

He allegedly received money through Google Pay and assigned points based on the amount ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 1000 per point. Investigations revealed that Jagatheesan manipulated the system to ensure players won their initial bets but lost when they bet on higher amounts later.

Police said that he sold up to 1500 points which meant that the total gambling amount could be in several lakhs of rupees. Following this, the police arrested Jagatheesan and seized four mobile phones and a laptop from his possession. Investigations are on.
