Periyanaickenpalayam station that was established in the year 1873 was renovated by city-based Lakshmi Machine Works under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Chief Financial Officer of the firm CB Chandrasekar said the renovation works that began last year were completed last month.
Works carried out at the station include construction of the station building, waiting area, ramps, disabled-friendly toilets, ticket counter and station master room, platform renovation, fencing the station area and gardening. The minister also dedicated a new platform at the Thudiyalur railway station funded by Coimbatore Corporation. Suresh Prabhu also inaugurated facilities such as a skywalk and an escalator at a cost of Rs 209 crore and an app-based cab service at the Coimbatore Junction.
He also laid the foundation stone for a multi-level two wheeler parking here at Rs 2.29 crore and improvement of the station’s frontage at Rs 45 lakh. A lift and paid AC waiting hall has been set up at the Tirupur Station at a cost of Rs 65 lakh. At the event, MPs SR Balasubramaniyan, P Nagarajan and AK Selvaraj and Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani put forward various demands for improving railway facilities in Coimbatore Region. Recalling the theft of his bag with cash in the Nilgiris Express two weeks ago, MP Selvaraj pressed for installation of CCTV cameras in trains.
