Pistol, machetes seized from car at check post near Kovilpatti, history-sheeter among three arrested

Three anti-socials, including a history-sheeter, were arrested and weapons, including a country made open barrel 9 mm pistol with five rounds of bullets and a couple of machetes, from them during vehicle check in the early hours on Thursday by Kovilpatti East Police.

Thoothukudi Superintendent of Police S Jeyakumar said that around 1 am a car with three inmates was proceeding fast towards the Thottilovanpatti check post. Cops manning the check post on suspicion conducted a thorough check of the vehicle during which they seized the weapons. Five cell phones and the car used by the trio were also seized.

The accused have been identified as P Rajkumar alias ‘Kumuli’ Rajkumar (37) of Thachanallur Melakarai in Tirunelveli, M Vinoth (26) of Palayamkottai and Surendar (24) of Melanatham, Kokkirakulam.

Among those arrested, ‘Kumuli’ Rajkumar was a history-sheeter against whom 26 cases, including murder, attempt to murder, extortion and bomb attack, have been registered in different police stations across the state.

‘Kumuli’ Rajkumar was involved in murder cases Pudukkottai, Guindy (Chennai), Erode Town, Mathichiyam (Madurai) and Suthamalli and Thachanallur (Tirunelveli). The SP said that nearly 19 cases of hurling bombs have been pending against ‘Kumuli’ Rajkumar. Further investigations revealed that the three inmates of the car were travelling from Erode after with an e-pass dated July 13, to Thachanallur in Tirunelveli, Jeyakumar added.
