TIRUCHY: Two persons died while six were injured after a Madurai-bound omni bus rammed into a lorry in Perambalur on the Chennai-Tiruchy bypass on Thursday (September 3).

An omni bus from Chennai going to Madurai was proceeding with around 50 passengers. When the bus was nearing the three-road overbridge in Perambalur, the bus driver S Saravanan (44), a resident of Tiruvarur, lost control and rammed into the concrete platform-laden lorry which was proceeding in front.

P Paldruai (52) from Tirupattur and K Thirunavukkarasu (32) from Tiruvallur were crushed to death, while the driver Saravanan, passengers K Abishek (18) from Madurai, M Arjunan (31) from Kanyakumari, B Aswidh (31) from Chowkarpettai in Chennai, S Abdul Rahman (21) from Melur, Madurai and S Vennila (38) from Alanganallur, Madurai sustained injuries.

Perambalur town police, along with the highway patrol police, rushed to the spot, retrieved the bodies and sent them to the GH along with the injured.

A case was registered, and investigations are on. Traffic was disrupted on the Chennai-Tiruchy bypass for more than an hour.
