Peahen found dead on platform at Arakkonam railway station

RANIPET: Arakkonam railway police are investigating the circumstances under which a peahen was found dead on the platform of the Arakkonam railway station on Monday.

The dead peahen was found on platform 1A and passengers who alighted nearby on seeing the dead bird alerted the railway police who rushed to the spot and retrieved the carcass.

Police are checking to see if the bird was hit by a train or was thrown out by some passenger who was carrying it illegally, in a bid to escape official scrutiny. Railway police then informed Ranipet local forest department officials, who came to the station and took the dead bird. After post mortem the carcass would be buried, sources said.
