TIRUCHY: Speaking at the Convocation ceremony in the Tamil University, the Minister urged the Governor and Chancellor of the university, who was the Chief Guest of the event, to initiate steps with the Centre to declare Thirukkural as a national book. The Minister pointed out that Mauritius ex-minister Arumugam Parasuraman recommended the UNESCO to declare Thirukkural as ‘World Book’ and on the same lines, several people have expressed their willingness to promote Thirukkural on a par with one of the best books. “The Centre should declare Thirukkural as the ‘Indian book’ and the Governor should recommend it,” the Minister said.
Meanwhile, the Minister said that the Tamil Development Centre which has been founded by the Tamil University would have at least 1,000 branches across the world and the locations have been identified already. He also urged the Governor to recommend the Centre to promote the Tamil Development Centre.“We have established in as many as 16 nations, including Mauritius and the Centre should help to expand the centres across the globe,” he said.
Stating that the Tamil University has got the B+ accreditation from the NAAC this year, the Minister said that the NAAC committee would be invited next year too and would try to get A+ accreditation, he said.
