Owner of Madurai textile shop which caught fire booked as 2 firemen dead

The Southgate police of Madurai Town Range have booked the owner of the textile shop, in which two personnel from Fire and Rescue Services Department were killed, while extinguishing a fire in the shop.

Early on Saturday a fire broke out in the shop and Fire and Rescue Service personnel P Krishnamoorthy (31) of Thiruppuvanam, Sivaganga district and K Sivarajan (33) of West Veli Street, in Madurai died when a portion of the building collapsed trapping the firemen. Two other personnel, including M Chinna Karuppu (30) of Madakulam, Madurai and R Kalyana Kumar (37) of Muthuramalingapuram, Pykara, Madurai who suffered minor burns are in hospital. According to Venkatesan, Station Fire Officer, Madurai, the commercial building had no fire safety audit and fire safety license. Based on a complaint by Venkatesan a case has been filed under Section 174 of Cr.P.C., sources said.
