CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation has approved a Rs 98.25 crore, five-year arrangement to keep its Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) running and bring selected components being developed under ICCC 2.0 into the same operating framework.
The ICCC, which went live in December 2020 under the Smart Cities Mission, brings together data from various civic services and field equipment for monitoring and response.
ICCC 2.0 involves additional infrastructure, applications and data integration being developed around the existing system. The latest decision is to have one System Integrator handle the existing ICCC as well as the identified 2.0 components for five years.
The move comes as the ICCC’s original operational and maintenance arrangement ended in November 2025 and was subsequently extended. The current extension runs until November 30. The Corporation said that the five-year arrangement was chosen to ensure continuity and improve lifecycle value and commercial competitiveness.
The arrangement will also cover software and data integration, the Early Warning System, cloud and internet connectivity, cybersecurity, maintenance and selective replacement or upgrading of equipment. The integration will cover/ maintain 1,256 cameras: 668 already part of the ICCC and 588 additional cameras identified under ICCC 2.0.
It will also cover 65 rain gauges, 46 flood sensors, 36 environmental sensors, 101 Variable Message Displays (VMDs), 40 floodometers, 159 pump-monitoring units, 57 vehicle GPS units, 17 automated boom barriers and 50 smart poles. Three Regional ICCCs are also included. Separately, 75 environmental sensors and 225 cameras for hi-tech labs are being implemented and can subsequently be integrated with the ICCC where applicable.
The Corporation has reduced the proposed operational manpower from 55 to 44, including four personnel for each of the 3 Regional ICCCs. For cloud storage, the Corporation has adopted 7-day retention of camera footage to video feeds. Application databases, system logs, backups and cybersecurity data will have separate storage and recovery requirements.
