MADURAI: Nearly 5.2 kg of drugs were seized in Thoothukudi after a smuggling bid was foiled on its shores on Wednesday. The seizure was made by sleuths attached to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), sources said. Preliminary inquiries suggested that the seized quantities of the drug were crystal methamphetamine, a strong addictive drug. The contraband was found in five polythene bags. Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths conducted search operations in a boat at Mullakadu shore and found and confiscated the contraband. Further inquiries revealed that the contraband was about to be smuggled to Sri Lanka by sea route. The boat was also detained by authorities concerned. Hunt is also on to nab the boat owner, sources said.
