“In Chennai, however, more than 95 per cent of the people are in the habit of using masks. But we do not recommend masks made of banian cloth,” Radhakrishnan said. With the fear of dengue looming large as several places have been receiving good rainfall, the government has been working to control the spread of the virus on a war footing, the Health Secretary said. Stating that the death rate in the state is 1.6% due to COVID, Radhakrishnan said, “We have been using 12 types of treatment, including Indian medicine and naturopathy, which has helped control the diseases to a certain extent.” Radhakrishnan said 753 fever camps have been conducted in Tiruchy Corporation areas through which 45,066 people were screened while 96 camps were conducted in rural areas through which 4,536 persons were screened. Among them 678 tested positive and are being treated, the Health Secretary said.
