CHENNAI: In a development that drew sharp attention in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, AIADMK MLA P Ayyappan, a known supporter of O Panneerselvam, on Saturday said that Governor RN Ravi should be recalled by the Union government.

Participating in the debate when the Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill was taken up again for consideration, Ayyappan criticised the Governor for repeatedly returning Bills passed by the Assembly.

He said the Governor’s actions were condemnable and amounted to obstruction of the legislature.

“The Governor has been returning Bills passed by this House again and again. This is unacceptable.

The Union government should recall him,” Ayyappan said, while speaking in the As- sembly. Former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam was seated in the front row during the remarks. Ayyappan’s remarks were seen as significant, given that the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is part of the NDA.

Despite internal divisions within the AIADMK, Ayyappan continues to be recognised as an AIADMK MLA in the Assembly.
