Officials rescue family of 7 from bonded labour from a farm

TIRUCHY: Officials rescue a family of seven who were working as bonded labourers in a farm in Thanjavur on Wednesday. The Child Line officials from Thanjavur received information that a family has been working as bonded labourers at a farm. Child Line official Suresh alerted the Labour and other related departments.

Subsequently, the entire team went to a farmhouse owned by one Murali at Thirupoonthuruthi village and rescued Rajendran (70), his son Murugesan (55), Murugesan’s wife, three boys and one girl and handed over them to Thanjavur RDO Ranjith.

According to the officials, the family was involved in menial jobs at the house of Murali for money Rajendran borrowed from him around 20 years ago. They were not able to recall how much they owe Murali.
